Whereas Hutton very strongly insists that we cannot know anything of the pagan past with any certainty (he frequently insists that specialist scholars in their respective fields must have it all wrong, and therefore his own skeptical views are superior to their's!), let alone the nature of the religion practiced in antiquity due to his cynical views of the historical record (I believe that an embarrassing public debate at the hand of the late polemicist Norman Cohn may be to blame), it is worth noting that he has since recanted his views first printed in "The Triumph of the Moon" that modern pagan witchcraft has no ties to remote antiquity.

Sampled only, read 40 pages -- great.

An expert on past and present paganism, Ronald Hutton revises his 1991 survey of practices in the ancient British Isles to narrow it to Great Britain. He peers back thousands of years at rituals, monuments, and remains to surmise how people sought to connect with the sacred and the natural.
