On the Place of the Progressive Palatalization of Velars in the Relative Chronology of Slavic

Robert Channon's 1972 work ON THE PLACE OF THE PROGRESSIVE PALATALIZATION OF VELARS IN THE RELATIVE CHRONOLOGY OF SLAVIC is a summary of the major treatments up to that point of one of the thorniest issues in historical Slavonic linguistics. We know that one of the regressive palatalizations (the change before front vowels resulting from the diphthongs "ai" and "oi") came after the other (the change before original front vowels), but the shift of "k", "g" and "x" to "c", "(d)z" and "s" *after* a preceding "i" could have seemingly happened at any time.
