The traveller, the tiger, and the very clever jackal

In one of Aesop's fables, a lion is rescued by a mouse as payback for an earlier favor. In this story, an elderly gentleman is out on an adventure despite the objections of his wife, when he takes pity on a tiger trapped in a cage, with potentially regrettable results.

"The Traveller, The Tiger, and the Very Clever Jackal" tells a wise tale of old Raaheeji, a wanderer who goes deep into the woods, contrary to the wishes of his sleeping wife. Raaheeji goes on to show that he is a very foolish old man indeed, for he frees an old, hungry tiger from a cage with only the slimmest of promises from the tiger not to eat him.
